Our Story

A doctor, devoted wife, and doting mother, my life took a devastating turn in 2012 when I was falsely accused, arrested, and imprisoned by my extended family, due to a personal vendetta over my interfaith marriage. The trauma of incarceration — separation from my children, harsh prison conditions, and deep despair — opened my eyes to the immense suffering, neglect and injustices that prisoners face, especially women and innocent children, who live as collateral convicts alongside their mothers within India’s carceral system, with little access to legal aid or support.

Turning my pain into purpose, I founded PABI - The Prison and Beyond Initiative, a foundation dedicated to supporting prisoners and their families, advocating for prison reforms, and believing everyone deserves a second chance.
